The Conservative candidate for Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner has visited West Bridgford to hear about local policing issues.

Tony Harper was joined by Rushcliffe MP Ken Clarke for a walkabout on Central Avenue where the pair listened to dozens of residents. 

 Mr Harper is Nottinghamshire born and bred and was previously a police officer for 36 years rising to the position of Chief Inspector.

If elected on May 5th, he has pledged to enhance neighbourhood policing and further support for victims of crime.He also wants to speed up response times and says there must be more efficient use of resources and services so to re-invest in frontline policing. 

As part of his campaign Tony has also visited Rushcliffe Community Contact Centre, which includes West Bridgford Police Station, with borough council leader, Neil Clarke.Tony Harper said: “I was delighted to join Ken in West Bridgford to talk to residents about their views on policing and gauge what the needs are south of the River Trent. 

“I’m aware of the recent issue of thefts from cars and of bikes and it is vital we have both a visible police force and residents taking the necessary precautions. My pitch to be the next Police and Crime Commissioner is I have the actual experience required as someone who was a police officer for nearly four decades.

“The police commissioner role is important as it is the voice of the public and holds police to account for cutting crime and keeping communities safe.”
