Conservative run Rushcliffe Borough Council has been named Entrepreneurial Council of the Year at the prestigious annual LGC Awards.
Run by the Local Government Chronicle, the accolades are the largest and most coveted for the local government sector, which recognise the best of local government innovation and service delivery.
Judges cited the council’s approach to making the most of its assets in recent years to deliver a new leisure centre and offices at Rushcliffe Arena, shrewdly investing in property and transforming its grounds maintenance programme with the creation of Streetwise. These decisions were all taken under the Conservative administration
Leader of the Council Cllr Simon Robinson praised members and officers for their foresight to deliver projects that have put the authority on a road to being self-sufficient without Central Government funding.
He said: “I am exceptionally proud the Council has won this award and continue to say to our peers being entrepreneurs really is in our DNA as councillors and staff.
“The fact industry leaders have now echoed this is a credit to all.
“This award will only spur us on to achieve even more for our residents and build on this platform of our reputation in the sector.”
