Today (Thursday 21st September 2017), County Councillor Jonathan Wheeler presented a petition from over 400 people for a crossing on Alford Road in West Bridgford. The petition calls upon Nottinghamshire County Council to install a pedestrian crossing which would link one side of the road to another, and allow people to safely cross this busy road, to the park and playing fields in Alford Road. Many schoolchildren also have to cross the road, usually chancing it between the many cars using the road. Councillor Wheeler spoke to the Wire after delivering the petition
" I would like to thank everyone who signed the petition, especially Rhiannon Jones who started it online. The petition will reinforce the conversations I have had with officers on the need for a crossing, and show the strength of public feeling. I was delighted to present the petition in front of the entire council at today's full council meeting to the Chairman of the Council, before which I deliver a speech on why I supported this petition. I will be following this up with officers and update residents when I know the outcome."
