Cllr Neil Clarke, chairman of Rushcliffe Conservative Association, is pictured congratulating Boris Johnson on his campaign just before the ballot result was announced.
The final result of the ballot was
Jeremy Hunt 46,656
Boris Johnson 92,153
The turnout was 87.4%
Neil Clarke said, “ I am very pleased that Boris was successful. I am sure he will be a breath of fresh air with a strong team around him to get the country moving forward again.
From talking to many people, it appears a very high proportion of Rushcliffe supported his campaign.
We must now all support our new Prime Minister in his and our quest to get BREXIT done, so we can all, at last, move on with the rest of our lives.
This is in the best interests of Rushcliffe and of the country and it is now high time for all MPs to pull behind Boris, to support the Prime Minister and vote with the Government.
Once BREXIT is achieved we can re-focus on everything else in our life that has been side-lined because of BREXIT. There is much to be done and it is now incumbent on all of us in both
Central Government and Local Government to work in the best interests of the country and of our local communities. If anyone is left in any doubt, the awful spectre of Jeremy Corbyn moving into No.10
should concentrate all our minds in working together"
