Rushcliffe Labour opposition unanimously vote against further investment within the Borough
The annual Rushcliffe Borough Council Budget was debated last night (7th March) and in what is frankly a bizarre move, the Labour opposition group all voted against the Budget, which included (you can read the proposals from page 63 onwards in the council PDF report) £1.9 million towards Phase 2 of the Cotgrave regeneration, and £260,000 for upgrading of Manvers and Colliers Business Parks.
Like any other opposition party, they are perfectly entitled to disagree with proposals, but what is supposed to happen in these situations is that they should then table an amendment to the Budget. But they didn't. All they did was simply vote against the Budget, and leave it at that. Councils are legally required to set an annual Budget.
However, don't worry - the rest of the borough council, including the other non Conservative members, all voted in favour of the Budget as per the report, so work and investment in Rushcliffe will continue, even in challenging financial times.
